Many
times before Lizzie had stood on the veranda of the
beach house, her deep mahogany hair flittering around her, the
strong current of the waves beckoning her toward oblivion. Many
times her glistening brown eyes had glanced upward to watch the
ever-present storm clouds form overhead, praying that the wind
would carry her soul away. Many times her bruised flesh would
cry to the ocean, urging it to sweep her body out to sea. And many
times, she had buried these thoughts deep within the recesses of
her mind and forced herself to return to the house that held so
much terror.
