Submissions
are open year-round.
1.
Email queries are accepted, however sample chapters or full manuscripts
will only be accepted
in hard copy via postal service. Technology is a wonderful thing, but the
risk of virus transfer
is too high. Any submissions or
sample chapters received
via email will be deleted.
2. No
short stories or poetry accepted at this time.
3.
Font preference: Courier, 10 or Times New Roman, 12
4.
Title Page:
Upper left-hand corner: Name (not pseudonym), Address, phone,
email
Upper right hand corner: Word Count
Enter 4 lines for Title--center
Enter 2 lines for By Line (include any pseudonym
here)--center
5.
Breaks: Chapter Breaks or Scene Breaks, use 3 asterisks (***), left
aligned
6.
Formatting:
1 inch margins all the way around,
left justification,
double-spaced,
Header containing Title/Last Name (left corner)..... page #
(right corner)
Printing on only one (1) side
Do not use a blank line between paragraphs. Use a ½ inch
(1 cm) TAB
first line indent to start each new paragraph.
The automatic tab feature in most
word processing programs makes your
formatting easy, but in the process of
transferring the data into a layout
program, the indents are lost.
7. Chapter Numbers/headings should be left aligned. ***Amazingly enough,
we don't care
how you format your italics, just that you are consistent throughout the
entire manuscript.
Please include a notation on the cover page letting us know your
formatting code.***
8. Minimum word count for novellas: 25,000*
9. Minimum word count for novels: 55,000
10.
FICTION:
Submit query with first 3 chapters, or 50 pages of printed text.
Include
chapter by chapter summary for the remainder of the manuscript.
Submit this information only for titles which have been completed.
11.
NON-FICTION:
Submit query with first 3 chapters, or 50 pages of printed text. Include
outline
and proposal, as well as target audience.
12. Please include
publishing resume, or standard resume.
13.
Please include any marketing ideas you may have for assisting with
marketing
your book. This can be summarized in an outline, provided it is
easy to understand.
Or you can include a detailed proposal. Decisions
will
not be based on your
marketing skills, but on your writing skills. Some
very good authors know little
about marketing, and some good sales people
cannot write.
14. On
the exterior of the envelope, in the bottom left hand corner, please note
which
genre you feel your book fits best.
EXAMPLES:
Fiction-Action/Adventure
Fiction-Romance
Fiction-SciFi
Fiction-Fantasy
Nonfiction-Political Science
Nonfiction-religious, etc.
(Please note
that AIB does not limit submissions to the listed categories. There are
simply too many
possible sub-categories to list.) If you are unsure which genre to note,
please state simply Fiction or Nonfiction.
15. PLEASE NOTE:
Always include an SASE for response. If you wish to have
your sample
chapters returned, please include the correct size of manila envelope
with
the correct postage. You can do this at the post office before you seal
the
envelope.
If you do not wish your
sample returned, please include a SASE, #10 (standard
letter size)
envelope. If you would like notification of receipt, please include a
SAS
Postcard. These are available at your local Post Office. All materials not
requested for return will be shredded and recycled (shredded to help
protect
copyright, and recycled to be kind to the earth).
16.
AIB does require
exclusivity. Concurrent
submissions are no longer accepted.
Please allow us 4-6 weeks from the
time of submission before you begin sending
your manuscript to other
publishers. If you have not heard any response from AIB
after 6 weeks, you
may consider yourself free to send elsewhere.
* Novellas may be
printed alone, or in combinations of 2 or 3 to a book.
These may be by the
same author, or by differing authors with the same theme.
